As I’ve said previously, one of the goals for ARC Worlds is to create a community of readers so it’s not just me emailing into the void every week.
Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments (hit the Comment button at the end of the post to do so) and tell everyone what you’re reading or watching.
I made a fun video of my planned reads for 2022, which you can check out here. I’m currently reading the secret book featured at the end and am excited to tell you more about it once it’s announced! Do you plan out your reading for the year in advance or are you more of a mood reader?
On the TV front, after a so-so first episode, I really enjoyed chapter 2 of The Book of Boba Fett and am excited to see where things are headed. With only six episodes, it probably didn’t make sense to drop two episodes at once like Disney+ did with Hawkeye, but you should go into the show with the understanding that episodes 1 and 2 are a single, longer story.
In ARC Worlds news, over the two weeks I will have two non-fiction posts for you:
The first will be part 1 of a new series tentatively titled Building a readership, where I’ll examine how authors and creators build a following in the current digital environment.
The second post will be the exclusive cover reveal of book 2 of the NYC Questing Guild series, Guild of Magic. If you’ve been reading along, you’ll have noticed that I’ve been including little snippets of the cover at the top of each chapter and now you’ll get to see all of Felix Ortiz’s amazing artwork! But, only if you’re a paid Guild member. Everyone else will see the cover in the spring during the official cover reveal.
Also, the Guilds-giving giveaway has ended and the winners will be notified by tomorrow!
If you’ve won an ebook or audiobook copy of Guild of Tokens, you’ll be getting a notification email from me along with an email from Bookfunnel that will let you download your copy.
If you’ve won a Guild recruitment postcard, you’ll be getting an email from me with a link to a form to collect your address so I can mail out your postcard.
If you’ve won the 6-month free ARC Worlds subscription, you’ll be getting a notification email from me and most likely an email from Substack notifying you of your subscription.
If you won the Page 39 edition of the Guild of Tokens special edition hardcover, you’ll be getting an email from me with a link to a form to collect your address so I can mail you your book, 39-page pamphlet, and art swag goodies.
Finally, congrats to Patrick W. for winning the paid Guild member giveaway that was open to anyone signing up for a paid membership by the end of 2021. Patrick won a special edition paperback of Guild of Tokens.
I’d love to run more giveaways in the future, so please drop a comment by hitting the Comment button below as to what prizes you’d like to see.
Hello! I'm Alicia, I write fiction on Substack too. Reading-wise, I don't really plan what I read. I just pick what I feel like reading from my growing TBR stack. I do plan to finish the last 2 Stormlight Archive books this year though. Wish me luck because they just keep getting bigger and bigger.
yeah, there's a lot going on right off the bat but if you stick through it and accept that you don't understand the world the characters live in, you end up unraveling those mysteries as you go along. There's just a lot of verbiage without clear meanings being used right away, that and how hefty each volume is, is intimidating but worth the read.
That was my issue when I tried to read it the first time around maybe 8 years ago after reading Mistborn. The second prologue is just so full of terms/things I gave up immediately. But after reading more Sanderson I'm ready this time!
Hi Jon! I'm currently reading through The Hollows series by Kim Harrison. Plus I have a bunch of books I'm partway through because :waves at the past two years: that I'd like to actually finish.I may actually hit my goodreads goal this year (I also lowered it substantially).
Hi Tamara! I have also been really bad at maintaining my pre-pandemic reading pace and also finishing novels. I have cheated a bit and have mostly been reading graphic novels.
Hey Jon! Right now I am reading ALL of the Substacks (seriously, you should see my inbox!) as well as Allison Epstein's novel "Tip for the Hangman" about Christopher Marlowe. (I found her through her Substack https://rapscallison.substack.com/ ). I just finished the first three seasons of "Killing Eve," I'm happy "This is Us" is back (even though it's the last season!) and need to go watch the latest Boba Fett.
Tip for the Hangman sounds really interesting! I keep wanting to read Neal Stephenson's historical Baroque Cycle novels.
I gave up on This is Us a few seasons ago unfortunately. Hope it ends in a satisfying way. Right now my TV watching is really just whatever Star Wars/Marvel show is airing. I also need to finish the last two episodes of Foundation.

Welcome Alicia! I'm going on year 2 of planning to read The Way of Kings, but it's definitely intimidating to get started!

Have a newborn, so I'm reading a page of whatever is under the coffee table at the time of feeding. Haha. Looking forward to seeing the cover!
Ha, yes. I remember those days. That's when my reading on the Kindle app on my phone really took off.
