Living in Manhattan, you don't really think about the geography of the island, other than noticing that when you're walking uphill slightly pushing a stroller. So for this chapter, I did some digging in the Library of Congress online archives to figure out what Manhattan would have looked like during the flashback at the beginning of the chapter.
