We've come to the end of the first arc of the story, which was originally released as Guild of Tokens: Initiate.
You'll hear authors talk about how they write to a particular reader, and in my case, that's my mom, for whom reading is a sport. Now, she is not a fantasy reader per se, but I think that makes her an ideal first reader. If she likes the story, then I know I am on the right track.
However, out of the entire book, the original version of this chapter was the only one she had a not-so-great reaction to, so much so that I rewrote the back-half.
In the original version, Beatrice had in fact tracked Jen down and was waiting for her on the couch watching Real Housewives. But my mom felt that was a bit too much, so I revised it to move back their first in-real-life meeting.
