Upfront I’m going to admit to you that this column should probably have been called Three Things Thursday, because that just sounds better. But today is Friday and I can’t go back in time (yet, see below).
I’ve done various wrap/round-up posts both here and on my blog, but I haven’t done any recently. And so while I work on some upcoming substantive posts, here is a mini round-up featuring three things I read or watched this week that you might enjoy. I’m even bringing back the old moniker, The Board!
One-Minute Time Machine (short film)
The YouTube algorithm served this up to me while I was watching a trailer for the upcoming movie The End. This is a delightful piece of film-making that for a moment gave me the idea and the courage to shoot my own short film. . . until I read the behind-the-scenes post in the video’s description (definitely worth a read), and concluded I will stick to writing prose and comics for now.
Lessons from my first exit
I stumbled across Michael Lynch’s blog a few months ago. He has a real talent for writing about software development and start-ups in an interesting way!
He recently sold his bootstrapped hardware company and accordingly wrote a deep-dive about his first exit:
Fantastic Dinosaurs!
I am getting caught up on the recent volume of Fantastic Four, penned by Ryan North (creator of Dinosaur Comics). Recently I listened to this fantastic interview he did with David Harper over on the Off Panel Podcast. Take a listen:
Also here is a dinosaur that is also Doctor Doom:
Explaining things to my kids
Yes, this is technically a fourth thing. But screw it, I’m going for it (and also not changing the name to Four Things Friday).
Look I am not one of those parents who uses their kids for funny moments on social media. The below incident happened organically.
And here’s one from the vault that made me laugh. It also … happened.
Adventures in cooking
This is also a bonus section that does not officially count as a “Thing” for purposes of the title.
Anyway, I’ve been trying to meal prep my breakfasts and lunches recently, and I looked back at my camera roll just now and saw I took these pictures last Sunday. So now you can read about what this is:
This is a tray of baked peppers, onions, and chicken sausage. After you pour a mixture of eggs, egg whites, and non-dairy ricotta on it, sprinkle it with non-dairy cheese, and bake it, you get:
Sheet pan breakfast burritos! It makes 10-12. Wrap them in a burrito and put them in your freezer. Then pop one in the fridge the night before, and voila, easy breakfast. You can watch a more entertaining instructional video here:
Tales from the Creative Mines
And finally, a writing update!
After a busy few weeks at work, I turned back to Guild of Magic: The Gauntlet, the short novel set between Guild of Magic and book 3. Hoping to wrap that by the end of the year.
On the comic front, Fran has been sending me a stream of pages from issue 2 of Blood of Atlantis. Here’s part of one!
Any guesses as to where our heroines could be? And why does Svetlana look so ticked off? Answers coming soon!
That’s a wrap! If you enjoyed this format, let me know in the comments.
And would you be interested in more behind-the-scenes content chronicling the development of Blood of Atlantis #2 behind the paywall here and/or over at Ko-Fi?
