So this week was a big week with the initial release of Guild of Magic on my online store! If you’re interested in picking up a copy, make sure you use the discount code I sent out in Tuesday’s email to get 16% off!
Things that are not necessarily fun but interesting nonetheless!
My last year of law school coincided with the last WGA strike. If you’ve been to law school and you already have a job lined up after graduation, you know that the third year is mostly unnecessary, so I spent that time catching up on Battlestar Galactica and daydreaming about being a TV writer, after I had stumbled upon Jane Espenson’s old blog. Anyway, at that time I formulated a plan to be a lawyer for five years and then if that wasn’t the thrilling career I thought it would be, I would quit and move to Hollywood to become a TV writer. For several reasons (most having to do with meeting my now-wife a few months after I graduated), that didn’t happen. But I did enjoy re-visiting that “What if?” by reading this interview with lawyer-who-quit-being-a-lawyer-to-move-to-Hollywood-to-be-a-screenwiter
over at .I also enjoyed this conversation between showrunners Damien Lindelof and Soo Hugh about the creative process, running a writer’s room, and more.
Finally, to round out my window into another life, I enjoyed Sonny Bunch’s interview with Colby Day about being a movie screenwriter in Hollywood today:

Question of the week!
Other than Guild of Magic :), what will you be reading over the holiday weekend?
The great thing about the old Zelazny paperbacks for Amber (10 of them) is that they are all around 200 pages so it doesn't feel like a huge commit for each one. He has an interesting writing style too.
Ok so I picked up your Guild stories--have a long flight coming up so I'll dig into them. Other than that, I've also recently picked up Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber and am in the second book, the Guns of Avalon. I've been going back and picking up the first print paperbacks (which are so cool-great artwork and painted edges).
Have a great holiday weekend.
P.S. - I'm a recovering attorney too :-)
